What are Dental Implants?

An implant restoration consists of three parts:

The Dental Implant

A dental implant is a sturdy, titanium post that is placed into the jaw and mimics the root structure in a natural tooth. The implants we place are Straumann Implants which are technically and scientifically superior implant systems.

The Abutment

The abutment is a post which connects the dental implant in the jaw to the visible crown.

The Crown

A crown is created in the lab to a high aesthetic quality, all our crowns are made to replicate your natural teeth and are extremely hard wearing. If several teeth are missing or you have larger gaps, other options such as bridges or dentures can be used in conjunction with an implant to replace multiple teeth at once.

An initial free consultation with Dr Guy Bailey is carried out to outline a full treatment plan, costings and timeframe. A referral will be sent to a local dental practice where they will carry out a CBCT scan. The scan uses the latest technology to assess your bone density and create your individual treatment plan. This scan also helps us to determine the size of the implant and where the implant will be placed in the jaw.

During your placement appointment for dental implants Cheltenham the soft tissues are prepared under local anaesthetic and a hole is drilled into the jawbone in which a titanium dental implant is placed. A healing cap is placed on top of the implant and a temporary appliance is fitted to ensure aesthetic comfortability whilst 2 to 6 months of healing takes place. During this time the bone infuses to the implant ensuring stability when the permanent crown, bridge or denture is fitted.
