Single Missing Tooth

Here at Ormond Terrace Dental in Cheltenham we can replace multiple teeth or a single missing tooth with a natural looking crown and implant to restore your smile.

Whether you are replacing multiple teeth or a single missing tooth the crown and implant will be completely invisible and look, feel and function like your other natural teeth. An implant is often used to replace a single tooth after a loss during a sporting or other accident, or to provide a replacement for an underdeveloped natural tooth. Another reason for replacement may simply be tooth loss due to decay or infection, all of these reasons are a viable motive to close the gap you have in your mouth and provide you with gold standard dentistry.

Having dental implants will help support the shape of your face by conserving the bone and avoiding a caved-in appearance from a shrunken jaw.

Consultation

During your initial appointment for a single missing tooth in Cheltenham we begin by carrying out a thorough assessment of your mouth, gums and teeth. This allows us to accurately plan your implant treatment.
A referral will be sent to a local dental practice where they will carry out a CBCT scan. The scan uses the latest technology to assess your bone density and create your individual treatment plan. This scan also helps us to determine the size of the implant and where the implant will be placed in the jaw.

It is crucial that you have sufficient bone to support the implant. However, if you do not have enough bone, you could still have dental implants. It is possible for us to safely and effectively correct your bone deficiency with techniques such as bone grafting and sinus lifts.

Placing The Implant

At the following appointment we carefully place your implant. This will take approximately around 60 minutes. You will be given a local anaesthetic to ensure you do not feel any discomfort during the treatment. We then open the gum, drill a small hole into the jawbone and place the implant into the opening. A healing cap is placed on top of the implant and a temporary appliance is fitted to ensure aesthetic comfortability whilst 2 to 6 months of healing takes place.

Healing Phase

The gum around the implant site will heal very quickly, there will be a small amount of discomfort however this can be managed with over the counter painkillers. Before you leave our reception team will book you a review appointment to check on the healing.

We allow healing for a period of two to six months, in this time the implant becomes an integral part of your jawbone. To make sure we get the best results we wait for the bone to infuse around the implant, this ensures stability when the permanent crown is fitted.

Placing The Implant Crown

Once the implant is fully healed, we can then take a mould of your tooth so that your final implant crown can be custom made.

After the crown has been created it can be fixed on to the implant. We ensure that the new crown will be indistinguishable from your natural teeth, to create an award-winning smile.
